Nursery Exploring The Outdoors (3)

w/c 14th April 2025
This Week at Coombe Dingle

Nursery

We have been fully embracing the lovely sunshine we have experiencing this week by exploring the baby roof top garden as well as the big top garden. During this time they took on new challenges by climbing the large climbing frame to get to the top and searched for birds. Elsewhere in the baby roof top garden the children explored different sized pots and pans that had been recently donated.

The children have been looking forward to Easter this weekend by partaking in a variety of different Easter themed activities. In the art studio the children created Easter cards using a variety of different shaped easter/spring stamps alongside pastel paint. To further celebrate Easter some of the children experimented with egg rolling! Learning and cause and effect by pushing and pulling the eggs to create marks in the tray.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten have also been celebrating Easter this week by exploring a large easter themed sensory tray consisting of red, yellow and orange dyed rice! The children used their hands as well as resources such as sieves to explore the sensory tray.

Downstairs in the dining room the children got busy by baking easter nets using chocolate and shreddies. They used tools such as a rolling pin to crush the shreddies to make them smaller and then used spoons to mix them together, what a treat!  They then carefully scooped up the mixture to place in cupcake cases and waited until they had cooled in the fridge.

Whilst exploring the library the children had shown an interest in lots of different illustrations within books. Some children pointed out animals that they could see and related them back to their own experiences. Some children enjoyed turning the pages of the large books and some children showed an interest in reading stories with their familiar Practitioners.

Pre-School

To follow the theme Pre-School children have also engaged in Easter themed activities this week such as creating their own eggs from clay. The children were shown how to mould the clay to get their desired shape. They even had to add a bit of water so that the mixture was easier to roll, this supported their fine motor skills.

Using their creative skills they created large easter egg collages by combining different pieces of tissue paper to create an indivdiuals pattern. This encouraged children’s mathematical skills by trying to copy and create their own patterns.

Finally to explore and learn about spring the children created their own interpretations of dandelions by using cress, cotton wool and pens. The children spoke about how they have seen dandelions and when they bow all the seeds fly away. Practitoners discussed with the children that when this happens it creates even more dandelions as when they land they grow!
