This Week at Coombe Dingle

Nursery

This week Nursery have got stuck into lots of Halloween themed activities! In the Art Studio we made pumpkin stamp pictures, using a halved apple - we pressed it into the paint and then onto paper, repeating the pattern!

We also explored a tuff tray full of black and orange resources and sensory bags. We looked closely at the different textures - squishy, soft, prickly! And of course we were fascinated by the giant pumpkin on display.

We've also taken part in some al-fresco mark making! We used orange and black paint, dabbing it all over the paper to create wonderful masterpieces.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have been learning about Diwali! The adults explained that it is the festival of light, so we made our own lanterns from paper. We carefully glued down tissue paper, and with a bit of help from the adults we created a lantern we could hold!

We've also been nurturing our independence, cutting up our own fruit for snack. The adults supervised closely as we used the child-safe knives to cut up bananas, apples and pears - yummy!

We've also showed amazing patience this year, as our very own pumpkin has been slowly growing in the vegetable patch! We picked it a few weeks ago and have been watching it turn from yellow to orange, getting riper...and finally we got to carve it! We discovered it had very thick skin, but we explained to Beth how we would like the eyes and mouth!

Pre-School

This week Pre-School we spoke about Diwali! The adults explained that Diwali is a Festival of Lights and many people set off fireworks in the evening to celebrate. We had a go at making our own fireworks using lots of coloured shiny paint. We printed our paint onto black paper and made some colourful firework prints.

We also looked at some mehndi patterns and made our own.
We first drew around your hand and then used some cotton buds which we dipped into paint and created mehndi patterns! After as a group we decorated the rest of the paper to make it super colourful! We said "look at the different colours I'm using, I'm using different buds for the colours." We were really precise and detailed too, well done!

We also had lots of fun in the library this week! Leona read us 'Night Monkey Day Monkey' and we used the props to act out the story while we were reading. The story was about two monkeys who slept in different times, they introduced each other to the things that they had never seen.
