Nursery
This week Nursery we celebrated World Book Day with lots of activities related to our favourite stories! Some of us explored a 'Rainbow Fish' tuff tray, which was full of colourful resources. We reached in to pick up the different objects and our adults said the names of each colour back to us. We also loved the fabrics, lifting them up and hiding underneath to play 'peekaboo'!
We had some new painting stamps arrive this week and we couldn't wait to explore them. The adults showed us the different shapes and named them out loud - square, circle, triangle and heart! They had a wooden handle so we could easily hold them in our hands, lifting the stamps up and down on the paper to watch the marks appear!
There have been some lovely sunny days this week so we have been busy exploring the garden! We still wrapped up warm with our coats and shoes and went off to explore. Some of us managed to climb and pull ourselves up on the wooden stepping stones, and we explored the colourful sun catchers too!
Kindergarten
This week in Kindergarten we celebrated Shrove Tuesday! We enjoyed making playdough pancakes, rolling out the dough into circle shapes. We tried flipping them in our pans, what a great test of our coordination!
We have been learning about real life superheroes this week, in particular firefighters! We talked about how firefighters help us, and they put out fires. We used our water squirters to 'put out' the chalk fires.
On World Book Day we explored a sensory tray inspired by the book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. We found some toy dinosaurs on the way, and got stuck in mixing together the gloop - so sticky!
Pre-School
This week Pre-School we had a great time celebrating Shrove Tuesday! Our adults each gave us a ball of playdough and asked us to roll out and decorate our pancakes. Once they were finished we took part in some pancake races! We waited patiently until we heard "ready, steady, GO!" and then ran with our frying pans to the bottom of the race course! We then had to flip our pancakes before running back, which was super tricky.
We also learned more about Ramadan, as it starts this week. As a group we talked about how the celebration starts with the first crescent moon of the month. We looked at books that show us the different phases of the moon, and painted our own versions onto black paper like the night sky. We remembered the different phases and could repeat 'full moon' and 'crescent moon'!
We also learned more about nature this week! We explored a book about the four seasons, and learned that we are coming into the season of Spring. We talked about how plants grow this time of year, and what insects we might see in the garden. After that we painted some beautiful spring flowers!
For World Book Day, some of us dressed up like our Core Book - the Smeds and the Smoos! We read the story and Jigna made us some pink milk, just like the Smeds drink. Jigna explained that the drink is made from rose syrup and milk, and she used to drink it lots as a child too! We really enjoyed this special treat.
