This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery have been learning about World Health Week! We have been cleaning germs off of frozen ice hands, and learning about keeping our teeth clean and brushing them with a toothbursh.

We have also been role playing with our mini hospital! We have been looking after our patients, we even put bandages on Chelsea and Tish and looked after our baby dolls too.

We also made rainbows with water and food colouring! We used pipettes to add the colours to cotton wool, observing what happened as the colours mixed together.

Kindergarten

We have had a very exciting and active week in Kindergarten! To start off our week we had a special visitor, Alaska's doggy - Evie! She was very gentle and excited to see us, we took turns smoothing her and feeding her treats! We also made flower potions in the garden, using spoons and cups to pour colourful water in our pots. We used scissors to carefully cut the stems off of the flowers.

We also have been enjoying the chalk in the garden, using it to make lots of colourful marks. We cleaned our babies in the tuff tray, using soapy water and cloths. Inside, we also used our magnifying glasses to spot different creepy crawlies in the sand tray!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we explored numbers in the garden! First we went on the hunt for natural resources around the vegetable patch. We found bark, leaves, rocks, and twigs to add to pebbles, sand, soil and shells. We talked about the different objects and where they came from, and explored their different textures! Afterwards we made the numbers up to ten with the different things we had found.

Our adults then took photos of the numbers and laminated them, so we could display them on the fence! We did a great job of counting up together, recognising the numbers we had created and putting them in the correct order.

Back inside we have been creating with playdough! We squeezed and stretched it with our hands, and explored lots of different tools and resources to manipulate the dough. We experimented with pressing different patterns into the dough, to see what would be left on the surface!
