This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have really enjoyed playing with our Spin Stacker! We used our fine motor skills and coordination to carefully place the pieces on the top, watching as they span all the way to the bottom!

We've also had lots of fun outside with our friends in the rooftop garden. We have been using chalk to create marks on the wall, stretching up and crouching down to make lots of brilliant marks.

We've also been getting into the Halloween spirit decorating some pumpkins! We used marker pens to draw on eyes, a nose, and a mouth. We even helped out scoop out the squishy pumpkin seeds from inside - what interesting textures!

Kindergarten

This week the children got up to lots of fun activities and adventures! Some of the children started their week of by separating different colour blocks to the matching bowls, whereas some showed interest in writing their names down with some support!

They also had such a nice time with water play where they did great fishing with their peers. As we are beautifying our outdoor garden even more, the children had lots of fun helping us do some gardening - they did some great digging and they enjoyed smelling a variety of new herb plants - lovely mint, sage and thyme!

In addition, they enjoyed matching the correct number bean to the right amount of colour blocks which was great to see. Last but not least, a group of children were really engaged during a fun activity with shaving foam and paint, they loved the colour mixing take place! See you all next week!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we got stuck into mark making using toy animals! We pressed them into the paint and then to paper - we talked about how some of the marks left were different sizes and shapes!

We've also been decorating one of our windows for Halloween! We talked about what sort of things we could draw - the adults helped, starting us off with a pumpkin and witches hat. It was then our turn, we loved the new experience of drawing onto the window!

We've also been learning about Diwali, which is happening at the same time as Halloween this year. We've been reading books about the festival to learn more, talking about lots of delicious food and celebrations!
