This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery the children have been creating Autumnal
pictures! The new season is here, so they have been using crunchy colourful leaves which they have been painting on and using to create marks. The children noticed the leaves created interesting shapes and patterns on the paper!

The children also got the chance for some crafty collaging. There were lots of beautiful Autumn colours to choose from, the children carefully picked up each piece and learned how to use glue to stick them down carefully onto their acorn.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten the children shared lots of fun and laughter! Since it's starting to get colder, they have started to learn how to zip their coats up. It can be a bit fiddly but with some supervision and guidance we managed it!

Some of them have also started potty training where they've filled their potty charts with lots of stickers, we are so proud of their development and independence! In addition, they enjoyed completing a body puzzle, cutting hair at the play salon and learning different types of shapes.

They have also been enjoying the variety of activities set up in the garden - whether it's riding a big tractor, popping bubbles or climbing on the balancing beam.

We have also seen the children have so much fun interacting with the emotion stones where the happy stone turned out to be their favourite. A tower was made out of colourful magnets and a group of children took turns to push one magnet and seeing the domino effect take place which made them laugh! It's been lovely seeing the children enjoy their week in Kindergarten!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we went on a lovely Autumn trip to the Library! On the way we noticed all the ways nature is changing - the different colours of the leaves and the fallen conkers and twigs on the floor! Once at the library we were encouraged to browse the shelves to spot our favourite stories, or try something new - some of us looked through the books by ourselves, whilst some of us shared a story with our adults!

We have also been celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, which happened this week. We learned that this Chinese festival celebrates the full moon, and we looked at photographs of beautiful lanterns, celebrations, and delicious looking mooncakes!

We also got stuck into a magical sensory activity this week, creating colourful sparkly potions! We added all our different resources to our container, sharing with the adults all the different colours and textures we could experience!
