This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery we have been busy with lots of cooking! We have been making marble shortbread biscuits, doing a great job of following the instructions and helping to mix the dough together.

We also made yummy cheese pizzas! We flexed our fine motor skills by spreading the tomato puree over the base and sprinkling the cheese over the top. Delicious!

We have also been learning more about colours this week! The adults supported us by naming the colours as we pointed to them. We also matched objects together by colour!

We've also been celebrating birds this week! We used our small world toy animals to make amazing art work, pressing them into paint and stamping them over the paper.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have had lots of fun with mark making! We made some ice cubes made out of paint to make marks in our tuff tray. This was really fun to see the way the paint melted into the paper, we called them lollipops!

At our art table, with help of the adults, we made stamps with our hand prints. This was really tickly on our hands as the adults painted a layer of paint on our palms!

We have also enjoyed our new bubble machine in the garden, chasing them them and going pop pop pop pop! We used dinosaurs in tuff tray to make foot prints in the garden and have them stomp in the tray.

Inside, we have been using our mathematics cubes and scales, using tweezers to pick them up and weigh them!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we have started to explore our new Core Book for this term - The Very Hungry Caterpillar! On the interactive whiteboard we listened to the story and even explored an ineractive game.

We had lots of fun with a musical session using the instruments! We tried to make sounds that replicated the weather. We explored loud sounds like crashing thunder, and soft quiet sounds like tip-tap rain! We also used our bodies to create percussive noises too!

Out in the garden we explored mark making with chalk! The adults made us a hop-scotch game, we really enjoyed hopping across to the correct number.

We also had a very special visit from a parent, who came to read us some stories in a different language! We listened to the Cantonese stories and new words, and even shared some of the other languages we can speak too.
