This Week at Downend

Nursery

This week in Nursery we spent lots of time in the Art Studio being creative! Some of us showed great independence by deciding what we were going to draw, using crayons. As we set to work, the adults asked us what colours we were using - we were able to recognise black, orange, pink and green!

We also had a splashing good time exploring a water tray! The tray also had squishy foam in it, which we enjoyed splashing everywhere. We also used jugs to pour the water in and out. We also thought it was funny to squirt water out using the shampoo bottles!

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have had lots of fun with all sorts of activities. We have enjoyed making all sorts of different shapes in our play dough tray, using rolling pins and stencils. We especially enjoyed making gingerbread man shapes and 'eating them all up' - nom nom nom!

We also paid Pre-School's sensory room a visit, using the sensory squishy board to balance! We also tried to spot the fishies in the lava lamp...can you spot them?

One of our friends brought in some yummy cupcakes to celebrate their birthday, we were so excited to get stuck into these at the end of the day. We also have had lots of balloon and bubble parties, throwing the balloons to one and another and dancing as we pop the bubbles!

We have of course also enjoyed some messy play, using paint on our hands to make hand prints, and using a soapy bubble bath in the tuff tray to clean it!

Pre-School

This week is Children's Mental Health week, so in Pre-School we have explored lots of activities that will help us understand and describe our emotions and feelings!

We explored the book 'The Colour Monster', where each colour represents an emotion. We then explored a pasta tray, we remembered what emotion was represented by each colour and then sorted them into the matching bowls.

We also used mirrors to look at our reflections, and tried pulling different faces to represent how we are feeling. We then drew portraits of ourselves!

For a mindful moment this week we also took part in some yoga, which was so calming. We copied the poses really well and also tried out some deep breathing exercises!

We also further explored our Core Book 'The Snail and the Whale'. A group of us listened to the story and looked at the wooden props at the same time. Afterwards we talked about which part of the story was our favourite, and drew it!
