This Week at Flax Bourton

Nursery

This week in Nursery, we have been practicing our balancing skills in the construction area! Using the foam bricks we very steadily placed each brick on, clapping and smiling when we manage to get the
tower to grow tall. Some us been also practicing using the hammer to
bang the bricks and cones, listening to the noise they make!

In the art area it's been a very messy week! First there was different coloured sand to collect, using a spoon we concentrated and practiced our scooping skills, then tipped it into the bowls to mix!

Next we were encouraged to making our own ice cream using bath
foam and corn flakes for sprinkle! We got stuck in, scooping and mixing the foam and sprinkling saying
words like "wow" and "foam" to the adults!

To finish the week on the roof top garden we explored Sand Land! We used the spades to dig just like we do when we are on the beach - some of us couldn't wait to crawl in, feeling the sand with our hands!
In the water tray we splashed and practiced using the funnel to collect water, watching as it poured out the other end.

Kindergarten

To begin our week, we had a pond in the tuff tray! In our core book, 'The Naughty Bus'
the bus falls into a pond! In the tuff tray, we had buses, water and leaves. The
children got the buses to drive through the water and splash! We also sang the
naughty bus song while we played.

The children enjoyed this lots so later in the week, we had a frog pond. This included
toy frogs, bubble wrap pretending to be frogs spawn, shaving foam, blue water, Lily
pads and plants! The children put the frogs on the Lily pads, watching them float
across the water. This made the children giggle. We also had numbers hidden in the
water and under the plants. The children searched for the numbers, with the adults
support to recognise which numbers they found.

Inside at the tuff tray, we had the dinner scene from our core book. We had bubble
wrap painted red for the beans, cut up sponges for the chips and shaving foam with
yellow paint for the eggs! The children got the busses to drive through the dinner, like
in the book. They also explored the different textures with their hands. Lots of them
popped the bubble wrap and felt the shaving foam between their fingers! They used
the chips to scoop up for shaving foam and move it around the tray.

We have had a new toy arrive in our Kindergarten room! We now have painting
stamps. The children explored the different stamps which included planes, stars,
crocodiles, mushrooms and much more. The children explored these, creating
pictures using lots of different colored painted

Some of the children have been interested in writing their names this week. We have
done lots of mark making inside and outside. We have supported the children by
writing their name or the first letter of their name in dots. The children have then
traced over the dots, forming the letters!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School has been super busy! We have been here, there and everywhere!

It's Bristol Harbour festival this weekend! A group of our friends have made boats this week using sponges and lollipop sticks. Children have been exploring the new mark making area on the decking this week and exploring the different letters around the
fence.

Our vegetable patch has grown rapidly so we decided to have a look and see how well they have grown. We have potatoes and parsnips now! To top it all off we did some quiet birdwatching in the big garden.

Children have been creating crowns with different resources and dressing up like Kings and Queens - they then put a fashion show
What a wonderful, busy, hot week it's been - have a wonderful
weekend!
