This week in Flax Bourton in the art area we did some colour mixing! We used red and green to make brown, to paint some paper plates to make bears. This links in with our Core Book, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'! The adults encouraged us to se the brush to mix the colours together, which was so much fun.
The weather has been so beautiful this week, so we have been spending lots of time playing outside in the top and lower garden with our friends! Some of us took an interest in the Autumn leaves we could see blowing around on the ground. We picked them up to show the adults - they asked "Where did the leaves had come from?" We looked around up at the trees, and the the adults explained that yes, the leaves fell from the trees! We ran around and played on the trikes as well.
To finish the week we celebrate 'Talk Like a Pirate' day by dressing up and coming to nursery where we explored a tuff tray with a pirate ship made out rice. We got stuck in feeling the rice with our hands!
This week in Kindergarten we became mini-builders in our construction zone out on the decking! We immediately began to scoop up all the fallen leaves using the toy trucks, reaching down to pick up and that might have fallen out. We also experimented with using the water wall as a car ramp, letting them go at the top and watching them whizz all the way down!
Thursday was 'Talk Like a Pirate' day and we had so many activities to explore! We got stuck into a sensory tray, where we discovered shiny jewels, sparking diamonds and a treasure chest. We counted up all the treasure we could find!
Autumn is here and we had lots of great seasonal conversation over our natural sensory tray! We spoke about Autumn itself, how the days become shorter as the sun goes down early. We were challenged to name some of the objects on the tray, we learned all about conkers and where they come from! We learned that they are hard, not soft - and very shiny. We also compared the sizes of them, working out which ones are bigger and which are smaller!
It was also World First Aid Day this week, so we explored some of our real life resources looking after our toy babies! We wrapped them up in bandages and plasters, and talked about how we can make people feel better with first aid.
This week in Pre-School has been amazing! We have tried a new arts and craft activity this week - sewing! Lots of brilliant designs were made.
We also made a giant track! The children gathered their favourite cars, trucks, helicopters and planes and made the little village come to life.
Role play with the toy babies has been a favourite this week. Taking them on adventures, bathing and putting them to bed with lots of blankets to get cozy with!
We also took part in an activity around looking after our teeth. We presented the children with model teeth, toothbrushes and shaving cream for toothpaste to practice brushing! The children were reminded that we must brush our teeth twice a day for two minutes and they did really well!
Outside we have been on our balance bikes again following the rules on the road signs that we have - and of course having a race! The loose parts have been out in the garden again and we have made obstacles to balance on and much more! Bug hunting is still very popular in Pre-School at the moment and this week we have found some new bugs we've never seen before - they're bright green!
Let's not forget what day it was yesterday, PIRATE DAY! We had so many pirates turn up for Pre-School, it was amazing! The pirates were on their ship protecting us from marauders with their trusty swords, talking like pirates and even building a plank to walk on!
