This Week at Flax Bourton

Nursery

Splashhhhhhhh! To celebrate Saint Patrick’s day we explored a sparkly water tuff tray. At first some of us used the jugs to transport the sparkly green water in and out of the tray. Then we would pour it upside down with a great big smile and watch it splash back into the water which made us giggle!

Some of us have been extra busy in the garden. We spent our time on a mission digging for sea-shells. We started by using our hands to move the sand around to see what we could find. We then decided to use a spade to dig, dig, dig - and as we kept digging we found one and with a big smile we picked it up and shown our friends!

Some of us spent quite a bit of time on an adventure, where we walked down to our local park. We saw lots of furry friends like dogs, and some friends that fly in the sky! Some of us spent time on the swings and on the merry-go-round and to finish off we enjoyed our snack in the sunshine. The rest of us stayed at Red Bus where we  went on a big garden adventure - learning how to ride the bikes going backwards and forwards.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have been exploring lots of different types of media! On the decking in the tuff tray we used paint, pom poms and shaving foam to create a multi coloured sensory rainbow. We looked at all the different colours that are in rainbows, how they are made and what treasures might lying at the the end of them (if you can find it)!

We have been focusing on our fine motor skills with using scissors and pencils. We are working to hold the scissors correctly to cut the paper and then holding the pencil with a firm grip to make smaller more focused marks when colouring in an image.

We are continuing to learn our colours and are starting to recognise them in and around the environment. The adults help us complete educational games where we have to recognise the coloured images and see if we have the card to match. We also looked at coloured shapes and spoke about how many sides each shape had. We had to count the holes in the shape to see if they matched the number of sides the shape had and then find the matching number of pegs to fit it on to.

In the garden we are developing an understanding of road safety when we are on the bikes. We speak with the adults about how we have to look both ways when we cross the road, wait for the green light and look out for other people and cars. We are also learning to be safe when exploring our different play equipment by doing good balancing, listening and following the guidance of the adults to play safe by using our walking feet.

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School has been a blast!

Inside we have enjoyed learning about technology as we have got some new calculators, old phones and torches to explore. We have enjoyed creating lots of pictures this week, from sequins to bugs inspired by our new bug magazines. On the decking we have enjoyed playing with bubbly water in our lovely water tray and of course exploring in the sandpit!

Outside in the garden we have loved building more small world environments with our loose parts area. We made our own pirate hats inside and went out to build a big pirate ship! Of course the balance bikes have been a favourite this week as usual. We have also made kites and flown them in the wind.

To top the week off, we have worn our odd socks for World Downs Syndrome Day!
