This Week at Flax Bourton

Nursery

This week in Flax Bourton we've been ever so busy! It was Shrove Tuesday this week, so we explored a pancake themed playdough tray. It was a great opportunity to develop our fine motor skills and hand strength, as we picked up and squeezed the sticky dough!

Our Core Book this term is Dear Zoo, so we have been developing our understanding of the story and different animals. We used our small world toys in a tray full of hay and straw - we talked about the names of the different animals we could spot in the book.

There was more sensory exploration with a foamy tray! We were encouraged to add water and sparkly sequins to the foam, noticing how this would change the texture and colour of the mixture.

Kindergarten

This week in Kindergarten we have explored lots of different mark making activities! We took our art making al fresco, going outside onto the sunny deck to explore different marks, patterns and shapes. We also tried out chalk, using it on the wooden reels. We noticed how the chalk left a different kind of mark, and we could wipe it away with our hands - wow!

We also got stuck into a squishy foam tray for Pancake Day! There were lots of kitchen resources such as pots and pans, we added foam to them and moved them around. We talked about our favourite toppings for pancakes and if we had them for breakfast that day!

We also explored a small world tray full of sea creatures. This was a great opportunity for us to flex our blossoming vocabularies, as we tried to name all of the animals we could see!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School we had a very special visitor. A child's grandad came to Pre-School to talk to us about his job before he retired - he was a firefighter! We learned about what firefighters do, how they help people. We even had the chance to try on his firefighter jacket and helmet, it was so thick and heavy!

To celebrate pancake day we had a go at making our own. We did a great job of scooping in the flour, pouring in the milk and giving the batter a big stir. We then asked Karenza if she would cook them for us, so we could enjoy them later for afternoon snack!
