This Week at Flax Bourton

Nursery

This week in Nursery, some of us took an exciting trip down to the water wall outside! The adults first showed us how to push and pull the leaver to make the water pump around and shoot out the end, we thought it was great fun when we got splashed in the face
asking for more! We had a go and pushing the lever ourselves, watching as the water moved along the tubes and out the end.

In the Book Nook we been listening while the adults read our Core Book, The Three Little Pigs! We were encouraged to point out the pigs and wolf on each page. To go with the book is wooden pigs and houses, we spend time matching each pig to the right houses.

To finish the week we explored some sensory colour matching in the tuff tray with pasta, bowls, and rice. We used our hand eye coordination to collect some pasta or rice on our spoons transfer it into each bowl and giving it a mix, some us could repeat
the colour we could see from "red" and blue".

Kindergarten

This week, some of the children have been interested in brushing teeth! Lots of them
sat around our toy mouth, taking it in turns to use a toothbrush to clean the toy teeth.
We extended this the next day by putting the toy mouth, toothbrushes, mirrors and
shaving foam in the tuff tray! The children used the shaving foam, pretending it was
toothpaste to brush the toy teeth. The children looked in the mirror, showing giant
smiles so they could see their teeth in the mirror! The children pretended to brush
their own teeth. During circle times, we asked the children how long we brush our
teeth for, learning that we brush them for 2 minutes in the morning and 2 minutes
before bed.

Tash created us a pond in our tuff tray! In our core book the 'The Naughty Bus';, the bus
accidentally falls into a pond! We had our tuff tray on the floor with lots of fish and
fabric which we were pretending was water. We also had buses in the water. The
children appeared excited when they found buses and they pretended that it was
their own naughty bus! With their buses the children searched for fish, using their
imagination that they were swimming in the water.

The children have engaged in lots of painting this week. Outside on the decking, we
had paint, pegs and cotton wool. The children used their fine motor skills to pinch the
peg and with support, the put the cotton wool on the peg. They children then put the
cotton wool in the paint! They used it as a paintbrush, creating beautiful pictures!

We noticed that our plants had grown super big this week! The time had come to put
them into a bigger pot. With Jo's support, the children made a new hole in the soil,
dug around the plant, carefully picked the plant up and put it in the new hole in the
bigger pot! The children then covered the top with soil, making sure they watered the
plants too. Hopefully soon we will have some yummy vegetables to try!

We have been supporting the football this week! We have worked together to create a
big England flag to put in our window. We have also had face paint of the England
flag on our cheeks. Come on England!

Pre-School

This week in Pre-School has been amazing!
This week we have been inside painting with our bare hands and practicing mark
making. We have also been on the woodwork station getting familiar with tools and
new designs. We have been learning new things in the English department, rhyming,
by playing gruffalo games! We have been working on hygiene too and how to keep
ourselves clean, including our teeth.

In the garden we have been racing on the bikes, climbing on the frames and building
lots of different objects and places with our loose parts area! The children of pre
school have also opened up an ice cream shop in which they serve ice creams to
people travelling on their bikes. We have been in the sandpit this week recognising
numbers that are placed in the fence and of course building sandcastles!
And of course, the face paint was brought out again as England was playing, and we
won!! Well done Pre-School for another wonderful week!
